On May 18, 2016, I interviewed Peter Kuznick, professor of History and Director of The Nuclear Studies Institute at American University in Washington, D.C. Peter co-authored, with Oliver Stone, The Untold History of the United States, a book and ten part video series. Parts of this 29 minute interview will be included in my current documentary, 11:57 – Three Minutes to Midnight. It is so powerful and revealing that I wanted to share it immediately.
The three myths are: 1) that America won WWII, 2) that Russia started the Cold War, and 3) the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were needed to force Japan to surrender. Peter also explains American foreign policy in the Middle East, towards Russia and China and points out how provocative and dangerous are America’s actions on their immediate borders. Kuznick states that these actions could lead to the fulfillment of Truman’s prediction that the bomb could end human life and all life on earth. This is an important and very riveting interview that I hope will be shared widely.
In addition to Peter, I interviewed Ray McGovern and David Vine (Base Nation) while in D.C., and they both will be included in my new film. As I have done with others I have interviewed, I will post the interviews with Ray and David in the coming weeks. The last planned interview will be in August with Dr. Helen Caldicott, a Harvard educated medical doctor who has spent her life studying the effects of nuclear radiation and how dangerously close we are to a nuclear apocalypse.
Finally, I am planning to go to Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia in October to document how the Russian people view America’s provocations and threats. This opportunity and invitation to visit Russia came up while I was in Ukraine the first week of May. Given the basic theme and focus of my film, I simply cannot pass this up.
You have made this project possible, however I will require another $1,000 to be able to travel to Russia. Every little bit helps. I thank you for your support in the past and in advance for whatever you can do to make this last trip possible.
