Jon Olsen is a friend and the author of an important book entitled Liberate Hawaii that details the illegal take-over of Hawaii by the United States in 1898. Thanks to Jon and what I learned from his scholarly work, I made sure to visit Hawaii on my six week trip to the Pacific last August and will include this important and untold history of the Kingdom of Hawaii in my current film, 11:57 – Three Minutes to Midnight. There is a movement underway to restore the kingdom and its sovereignty to the Hawaiian people and the hope is that one day justice will be served. Simultaneously, there is another movement in the Hawaiian Islands protesting the many US bases, including Pearl Harbor, that have desecrated and polluted the environment.
